The Ducts are a problem

Crawlspaces, and the issue of Ducts and how it can be solved.

Your ducts are a much cooler surface than the surrounding hot crawlspace air in the summer when the air-conditioning is on. Because water is a conductor and not an insulator – this means that a wet duct will be warmed by the summer air coming through the crawlspace vent. How is this an issue? Well, cool air traveling through a hot vent is not likely to stay cool for very long, which makes the whole point of sending cool air through so you don’t die from heat in the hot summer months, quite pointless. This is a huge waste of energy and a huge waste of money. So the solution is to not only seal up your crawlspaces if you have vents but to also cover up all that dirt in your crawlspace 

The best way to do this is by having your crawlspace encapsulated with the CleanSpace crawlspace liner. It is a 20 mil thick plastic liner that can be fitted to your crawlspace to completely seal off your home from the Earth completely.  Any moisture vapor coming up from the floor will be trapped within multiple polyester cord reinforcements within the liner and the water can flow under it into the sump. It has an antimicrobial additive manufactured into the material as well, to keep mold from growing on it – effectively keeping your home safe from rotting away. 

The liner can be sealed by many methods including special tapes and sealants. The top edge around the walls is sealed with urethane caulk. If it’s on a sloped floor, the CleanSpace liner can be staked so it doesn’t move or pull-down when you crawl on it. 

This means you will be able to use your Crawlspace for storage, which wouldn’t be a likable thought if the Crawlspace was still full of dirt. 

If you have concrete flooring for your crawlspace, not to worry, the CleanSpace liner can still be installed there if the sump is installed at the lowest part. Dimpled polyethylene drainage matting can even be laid down to create airspace between the liner and floor where water can flow into the sump.

This is needed if you want your crawlspace to drain properly, because while a concrete crawlspace floor is better than dirt – water vapor still goes right through it.
