Two Stage Waterproofing
Two Stage Waterproofing
Most waterproofing installations involve removing the perimeter of the floor to install a drain. However, a monolithic type foundation is a floor with thick edges to it, and since those thick edges are the structural footing of the house, it can’t be removed.
If that’s the case for your foundation, than a two stage waterproofing system is the better option, as it keeps the basement dry without risk of structural foundation issues.
How it works, is a DryTak system is installed along the wall to capture any water coming from there and the floor wall joint. Then, it drains into a sub-floor drainage system which protects against floor leaks and drains into the sump pump system.
The reason this is the best option is because a monolithic foundation is constructed into two parts rather than three. The floor and footing are poured together and the wall is built on top. Because the perimeter of the floor is a foot or more thick and it is the structural member bearing the weight of the whole house to the ground, it should not be removed.
