Is Your Home Radon Protected?
Ontario, one of the largest provinces in Canada, boasting with a mineral rich soil. This soil has the largest reserves of uranium than anywhere on Earth. The thing with uranium is that once it starts to decay and decompose, it release a gas known as Radon. This gas is odorless, tasteless, and invisible and highly toxic. With repeat exposure for long period of time, it is linked to an increase risk of lung cancer among other health risks. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 21,000 lung cancer deaths are caused by Radon each year.
Winter is the season in which Radon levels are at the highest. The cold air changes the atmospheric pressure and pushes cold air into the ground. If your home isn't properly sealed or it's an old home, the radon gas in the ground will get push through into the foundation.
