Crawlspace Encapsulation in Petawawa, Ontario
Challenge
Concerns: High Moisture Levels, poor insulation and cold floors
A homeowner owner in Petawawa, Ontario, reached out to us with concerns about their damp, uninsulated crawlspace. They were experiencing cold floors in the winter, high humidity levels, and potential mold growth, making their home less comfortable and energy-efficient. They needed a long-term solution to create a dry, insulated and healthier crawlspace.
During the initial inspection, we found excessive moisture and a lack of proper insulation, which was causing heat loss and high energy bills. The crawlspace had an exposed dirt floor, which contributed to ongoing humidity issues. Additionally without a proper vapor barrier, moisture as seeping into the home's foundation, potentially leading to structural damage over time.
Solution
To seal , insulate and protect the crawlspace, we installed a comprehensive encapsulation system using clean space, terra block and silver glo insulation.
- Clean space vapor barrier - Installed a durable, 20 mil linger along the floors and walls, creating a sealed moisture barrier to prevent dampness and mold growth.
- Terra Block insulation - Placed a padded insulation layer over the crawlspace floor adding both thermal protection and durability while preventing heat loss.
- Silver glo insulation panels - installed silver glo rigid foam board insulation along the walls to reflect heat back into the crawlspace, significantly improving energy efficiency .
- Sealing air leaks - Ensured all entry points, cracks and vents were properly sealed to prevent cold air infiltration.
After the installation, the homeowner immediately noticed a warmer and more comfortable home, especially during colder months. The moisture issues were eliminated and their energy efficiency improved reducing heating costs. They were thrilled with the transformation, knowing their crawlspace was now proper insulated, protected from moisture and contributing to a heathier home environment.
this crawlspace encapsulation project in Petawawa, Ontario, demonstrates how sealing and insulating a crawlspace can dramatically improve home comfort, air quality and energy efficiency.
