We had a customer in St. Andrews West had a stuffy, unfinished basement and crawlspace. The Space was poorly insulated and retained a musty odor, making it uncomfortable and unusable. The Homeowner wanted a long-term solution to encapsulate the area, imrpove air quality and a more energy efficient home.
During our inspection, we identified several issues:
- High Humidity levels contributing to the stuffy and damp conditions.
- A lack of insulation on the floors and rim joists causing heat loss.
- A need for proper moisture management to prevent future problems.
Our goal was to create a clean, dry, and insulted space that would improve the overall comfort and efficiency of the home
Our solution to encapsulate and transform the basement and crawlspace, we implemented the following:
- Cleanspace Vapor Barrier: We Installed CleanSpace Liner to cover the floors and walls of the crawlspace. This durable waterproof barrier prevent moisture from seeping in created a clean, dry and bright appearance.
- Drainage Matting: Laid drainage mattting beneath the CleanSpace liner. This layer provides a drainage path for any moisture that may accumulate, ensuring the space stays dry and free of water pooling.
-TerraBlock Insulation: We added TerraBlock insulation on the crawlspace floor. This layer provides cushioning and thermal insulation, helping to maintain a consistent temperature and improve energy savings.
- Rim Joist Insulation: insulated the rim joists to seal off one of the most significant sources of heat loss and air leakage in the space. This step helps prevent drafts and enhances the overall thermal performance of the home.
The encapsulation process completely transformed the basement and crawlspace into a dry, clean and energy saving home. The Clean Space liner and Terrablock insulation significantly reduce moisture and improved air quality, while the rim joist insulation stopped drafts and heat loss.
The homeowner was happy with the results. They now have a healthier, more comfortable home and no longer concerned about moisture, odors, or energy loss. The project added long term value and livability to their home.
